Do you know someone who does not have Internet access, but could benefit from using the 'Net? The Digital Divide Network website now features the Digital Divide Database, a national directory of over 20,000 digital divide-related services around the US, including places where you can get free Internet access and computer training. Their listings include public libraries, HUD neighborhood network sites, PowerUp sites and Urban League centers, among others.

A search of the database for places in my area returned the results in a very useful format, with addresses, phone numbers and maps. Clicking the link for a particular organization brings up information on services offered. A more detailed map and form for driving directions are included. Tip: to get customized directions requires typing in your 9-digit zip code (since the directions box only lets you input city, state and zip code, but not your street address).

Several results in my search listed an old area code, so some of the information may not be up to date. To take the database for a test drive, go to DigitalDivideNetwork.org and find the spot on the right-hand side where it says "Get Connected!" Type in a zip code and press the submit button.
